Green, Lewis cop singles titles at National Table Tennis Champs
ORLANDO Green from Portland Table Tennis Club and Dadrian Lewis of Ardenne High School captured the Under-18 boys’ and girls’ singles titles, respectively, at the 2017 National Table Tennis Championships at G C Foster College of Physical Education and Sport gymnasium in Spanish Town St Catherine recently.
Green defeated Derrick Francis of Glenmuir High in four sets —11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9 — in the boys’ final. Lewis, stretched to the limit in the five-set final, topped Solesha Young from Greater Portmore Table Tennis Club 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10, 11-7 in the girls’ final.
Meanwhile, the Boys’ Under-15 singles final, which went to five sets, was won by Jon-Pierre Daley from Super Sonics Table Tennis Club, who defeated club mate Azizi Johnson 11-12, 11-8, 11-4, 10-12, 11-8.
In the Girls’ Under-15 singles final, Solesha Young from Greater Portmore TTC defeated Tsenaye Lewis of Super Sonics TTC 11-2, 11-8, 11-1.
Conroy Henry of Super Sonics TTC was the winner of the Boys’ Under-13 singles final, defeating Joel Butler from Kingston College 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10.
In the girls equivalent, Solesha Young of Greater Portmore TTC came from a set down to beat Kelsey Davidson from Angels T Club 11-13, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8.
The Boys’ Under-11 singles final was won by Azizi Johnson of Super Sonics TTC, who rallied to beat Matthew Fung from Greater Portmore TTC 9-11, 11-1, 11-5, 13-11.
In girls action, Dianna Lewis from Super Sonics TTC came from a set down to capture the title, beating Olivia Peterkin from Greater Portmore TTC 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 5-11, 12-10.
Gari Whyte from Super Sonics TTC defeated Onair Gallow from Angels TTC 11-4, 11-2, 11-8 to capture the Boys’ Under-9 singles title, while Adrijanna Hutchinson from Angels TTC beat club mate Antonio Barker 11-6, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8 to win the girls’ title.
