The following is the full text of the New Year’s message from the Generation 2000 (G2K)

Dear Jamaica,

Over the course of 2017 Generation 2000 (G2K) was successful in replenishing its talent pool and expanding the organisation’s reach both locally and globally.

Most importantly, G2K acted as a voice of reason on substantial matters of national interest. These successes, for which we are truly thankful, were only possible through the unified efforts of our members and the tremendous support that the organisation received throughout the year.

As Jamaicans go into 2018 together, we are all challenged to embrace new beginnings. The new and more efficient systems of governance that are being implemented by the Government of Jamaica bring a renewed sense of hope and opportunity to the nation. However, departure from old ways that are not currently serving us well can be quite daunting for some, and may even leave them vulnerable to misinformation and misdirection. It is important that on this journey towards prosperity we be our brother’s keeper, as our individual successes are intrinsically tied to the collective success of the entire nation.

I therefore take this opportunity to call on all Jamaicans, in service to the nation, to use our individual talents responsibly, to inform the uninformed, instill faith where there is doubt and to act as beacons of inspiration for the dispirited. Together, we will always be stronger than anything that seeks to divide us.
