JTA demands Cabinet response on wages by 5:00 pm Monday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The teachers today received a similar response as the police from the Government, which indicated that Cabinet would meet on Monday to discuss some of the items submitted for consideration in the wage negotiations.
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association said its action committee met today following talks with the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service and is demanding a response from the Cabinet by 5:00 pm on Monday
“Although there was favourable consideration given to some of the outstanding items of the claim, the item of percentage increase was not addressed,” the JTA said in a press release this afternoon.
The association said it remains resolute in defending the cause of Jamaican teachers “who are fed up with the delaying tactics being employed by the Government”.
In November the JTA voted unanimously to reject the Government’s current six per cent wage offer over two years.
