Montague summons police commissioner to meeting
KINGSTON, Jamaica — National Security Minister Robert Montague has summoned Police Commissioner George Quallo to a meeting on Monday, after he today received an updated report into the circumstances surrounding last Monday’s activities that resulted in the traffic pile-up on the Palisadoes strip in Kingston.
In a release this afternoon, the security ministry said Montague, who is currently reviewing the report, will meet with Quallo at 9:00 am at his Oxford Road offices in St Andrew.
On Monday, there was chaos along the Palisadoes main road leading to Norman Manley International Airport, which was triggered by scores of revellers attending a party on the strip.
As a result, several people complained about getting to the airport late for their flights and to their homes after their arrival in the island.
The following day, Montague said the repercussions from the calamity were yet to be tabulated and asked Quallo to:
• outline the conditions surrounding the issuing of the permit;
• the policing plan that was put in place for the event, and,
• the steps that will be taken to hold someone accountable.
According to Montague, Quallo’s preliminary report that was submitted on Tuesday did not meet the standards that the Jamaican public has come to expect from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
In fact, the national security minister rejected the report.
He said that the report was inadequate, as it did not address the questions raised.
Montague further expressed that as minister, he could not accept the report as it is not reflective of the hard work of the men and women who protect Jamaica daily.
