One reported drowning in Trelawny flood
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Flooding from persistent overnight rain in Trelawny has resulted in at least one death in the parish.
Police this morning reported that 60-year-old Elizabeth Thompson, otherwise called ‘Tully’, was attempting to cross a body of water in Barnstaple district, when she got into difficulties and drowned yesterday.
Her body was fished from the water with the assistance of the fire department and several divers. Up to yesterday, teams from the National Works Agency were undertaking assessments in several areas after the rains left some main roads inaccessible.
The Jamaica Public Service was also busy restoring power to customers who were without supply due to the high winds and flooding.
The overnight rains are associated with a cold front being experienced by the island.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica, which had issued a flash flood warning for low-lying areas of Trelawny and St Ann yesterday, this morning downgraded to a watch for the entire island.
