UPDATE: Scorpions extend lead vs Jaguars to 90
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Contrasting half centuries from left-hand openers Assad Fudadin and John Campbell on Friday pulled Jamaica Scorpions back into contention against league leaders Guyana Jaguars in the eighth-round regional four-day game at Sabina Park.
But the visitors did manage some breakthroughs late in the afternoon as the Scorpions reached 167-5 —a lead of 90 runs with five wickets in hand— at close of play in their second innings.
Scores: Scorpions 106 (36.2 ovs) & 167-5 (50 ovs); Jaguars 183 (59.5 ovs).
The not out batsmen are Fudadin, on 61, and wicketkeeper/batsman Aldaine Thomas, who is on nine. Campbell made a free-scoring 62 before he was dismissed.
Earlier, the three-time reigning champions Jaguars made 183 in their first-innings reply to the Scorpions to take a handy 77-run advantage. Former West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul led the way with a typically patient 50, while the Scorpions left-arm finger spinner Nikita Miller snatched 4-30.
