Cops find assault rifle after stopping ‘dangerous driver’
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Two men were yesterday arrested and charged after police reportedly found an assault rifle in a motorcar, which officers said was being driven in a dangerous manner on the Greenvale Road in Mandeville, Manchester.
The police officers said they were on patrol in the area when, about 9:35 am, they observed a grey Toyota Vitz motorcar being driven in a dangerous manner. The lawmen signalled the driver, who they identified as 28-year-old Lamornth Jackson of a Clarendon address, to stop.
When he complied, the vehicle was searched and the firearm found on the back seat of the motorcar.
Jackson and his passenger, 25-year-old Ricardo Lewis of Portmore, St Catherine, were arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm. Jackson was also slapped with an additional charge of dangerous driving.
Their court dates will be announced at a later date.
