JUTC driver disarms robber with help from passengers in Portmore
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — An employee of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is in hospital treating wounds he sustained while in the process of disarming a would-be robber last evening in Greater Portmore, St Catherine.
Reports from the police are that about 5:30 pm, the culprit, armed with 9mm pistol, tried to rob the driver when a struggle ensued between them and the driver, according to the State-owned bus company, was stabbed in the chest by the gunman.
It is further reported that passengers came to his assistance and the assailant was disarmed.
The culprit, along with the weapon, was handed over to the police.
An off-duty JUTC employee, who was travelling on the bus, was also injured during the incident and is being treated at hospital.
