Spice’s queen of Instagram
SPICE is celebrating a social media milestone. On Sunday, she racked up one million followers on Instagram — a first for any Jamaican female dancehall artiste.
“On this day January 7th I’m humbled to know that I’m the first artist alive from Jamaica to hit ONE MILLION. TO ALL MY FANS THANK YOU. Drop some blue hearts let’s blue this post up,” Spice said in an Instagram post.
Last year she told the Jamaica Observer she wanted to have a strong international presence and followed through with rubbing shoulders with some American top tier acts. In September, the deejay attended VH1’s Hip Hop Honors in California where she was seen with Mona Scott Young, creator of Love and Hip Hop reality television series.
Months earlier, Spice made an appearance on Love and Hip Hop Atlanta alongside television personalities Karlie Redd and Mimi Faust. She also attended the BET Hip Hop Awards last October where she met rapper Cardi-B, whom she described as inspirational.
“You don’t really understand, like you really inspire me. I use to wear a Cardi chain just like you. I go way back; I’m not like these new ones,” the 24-year-old told Spice before singing a line from Spice’s 2006 song Rude Boy Love. The post has attracted more than 700,000 views.
Spice was also seen with Jamaican-born model Winnie Harlow, producer DJ Khaled, rappers Missy Elliott, T.I., Trina, Busta Rhymes, Tory Lanez, model Tyson Beckford, actor Karrueche Tran, and Jamaican-born entrepreneur Keyshia Kaoir.
Spice took to Instagram to thank her fans who contributed to her increasing popularity.
“Looking back at 2017 THANK YOU FOR 14.3 Million likes I don’t even know where to start but it was definitely a great year for me and I’m now ready and eager for an even greater year 2018…TO ALL MY FANS I GOT MAD LOVE FOR YOU…So let me just say Big up every single selector who have been pushing my music, and every media house,” her post read.
