KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) a short while ago confirmed that Superintendent Robert Walker, who was the Commanding Officer for the East Kingston Division, has been transferred to the Police Area 4 HQ with immediate effect.

The CCU declined to comment on whether or not the party, Sandz, which caused a massive traffic pile up on New Year’s Day, contributed to Walker’s transfer.

The traffic pile-up on the Palisadoes strip in east Kingston caused a gridlock along the roadway leading to the Norman Manley International Airport, resulting in airlines passengers and crews missing their flights.

In the wake of public outcry, the organisers of the beach party issued an apology while Commissioner of Police George Quallo submitted a report on the matter as requested by Minister of National Security Robert Montague.

Mayor of Kingston, Delroy Williams has since said the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) would not be issuing any further amusement licences for events along the Palisadoes Road in the short term and would meet with all ministries and agencies “to determine our medium- to long-term position”.
