Jamaica to host inter-parliamentary meeting on gender issues
PLANS are advanced in the preparation for the inter-parliamentary workshop being held under the theme “Partnerships to Transform Gender Relations”.
The workshop. which will take place on January 24 and 25 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston, is a collaborative effort between the Jamaican Parliament and ParlAmericas, an inter-Parliamentary association with membership across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
The meeting, which is being hosted by the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange, will see participation by parliamentarians and gender experts from 11 countries.
Participants, the organisers said, will exchange successful strategies that have been employed to address these problems in their respective countries, highlighting the critical importance of transforming gender norms and working in partnership with diverse stakeholders.
Minister Grange describes the event as an opportunity to “discuss gender equality and gender mainstreaming and to address the issues that affect our women and our men”.
