‘Herbert’ face arch-rivals Cornwall College in U-16 match-up
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical will be in the unfamiliar position today of seeking to rebound from a loss when they take on arch-rivals Cornwall College in a rescheduled ISSA Western Conference boys’ Under-16 game at Herbert Morrison.
The defending champions lost for the first time in two seasons after going down 51-59 at Rhodes Hall on Wednesday.
The last time Herbert Morrison Technical lost an Under-16 game was two seasons ago to Cornwall College and were perfect in both age groups last season.
Also on Wednesday, William Knibb Memorial inched closer to a place in the semi-finals with a big 78-20 win over St James High in the Under-16 game, but lost 58-40 to Spot Valley High in the Under-19 encounter.
At Rhodes Hall, Akeem Davis and Javani Davis combined for 40 points in their eight points come-from-behind victory over Herbert Morrison.
Herbert Morrison led 10-7 after the first quarter, but the home team rallied to lead 26-19 at half time and were up by 17 points (43-26) going into the fourth quarter.
Akeem Davis led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Javani Davis scored 18 points.
Kevin Smith scored 13 points to lead Herbert Morrison with Anthony Thorpe getting 11 points, eight blocked shots and six steals.
William Knibb Memorial continued their hot run and ended their schedule on a high with a 58-point blow out of the winless St James high team in Martha Brae as they held the visitors to eight first-half points.
Rhondane Ashman had a triple-double 20 points, 15 rebounds and 12 steals, Kevaughn Hill scored 16 points and 12 rebounds and Cliffoy Samuels scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds.
In the Under-19 game, Giovanni Bailey and Roger Hines both recorded double-doubles for Spot Valley High in their 18-point victory after trailing at the end of the first quarter.
Bailey scored 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead Spot Valley, Hines scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds, while Kimali Edmondson also scored 15 points while William Knibb Memorial’s Kimani Rose led all scorers with 24 points.
