Section of Spanish Town Road to be reduced to single lane traffic on Saturday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that come Saturday, the section of Spanish Town Road in the vicinity of Industrial Terrace and the Denham Town Police Station will be reduced to single lane traffic.
Manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, explained that the works will be carried out in two phases.
The westbound lane heading towards Three Miles will be closed first after which the eastbound lane heading towards downtown Kingston will be closed to facilitate the planned works.
The drain in the location was made from steel plates. This will however be replaced with a steel grating.
Shaw said that this will be a significant improvement as the steel grating will allow storm water to flow from the road into the drain.
NWA said the steel beams thay form the grating will be secured with concrete which should stand up better to the wear of vehicular traffic.
The lane restrictions are expected to last for three weeks.
The works form part of the NWA’s ongoing drainage improvement programme where some $10 million is being spent on replacing or repairing manhole covers, damaged gratings or grating covers in six locations in the Corporate Area including Tom Redcam Drive, West Kings House, Constant Spring Road, Waltham Park and Hagley Park Road.
