Chocoholic Indulgences at Adam & Eve Day Spa & Salon

Valentine’s Day is synonymous with cute dates, fluffy stuffed animals, and quality time with romantic partners, but for those who may not be as relationship-inclined, however, the focus is perhaps self-care and self-love. But one thing that remains constant on this day of love, no matter your relationship status, is chocolate! Adam & Eve Day Spa and Salon has incorporated this popular sweet treat into its upcoming Valentine’s Day package, allowing clients to enjoy its medicinal benefits whilst riding in the lap of love and luxury. Under the Dryer has teamed up with Adam & Eve Day Spa & Salon business manager Marja Hamilton; managing director Kimisha Walker; and spa manager Nyoka Smilley, to give you the perfect getaway for you and yours. Stress, sore or tight muscles, aching joints, discoloured, uneven skin tone and/or dry skin? We’ve got you covered.

As the staff of Adam & Eve celebrate the fast-approaching holiday, their clients can opt to indulge their senses with a suite of “Jamaican Chocolate”-related services that would be the perfect gift idea. Even better, the organic, Jamaica-grown chocolate is made, in-house, into a face and body mask and the service can be paired with the clients’ choice of hydrotherapy (a detox bath), a body scrub, body wrap and a massage.

The medicinal and beauty benefits of chocolate take it way beyond suitable to just gift or gorge on as it:

• Nourishes and softens dry skin

• Acts as a deep moisturiser

• Helps in diminishing the appearance of scars

• Helps reduce free radical damage because of its antioxidant qualities

• Smoothes wrinkles

• Makes skin appear smoother and more supple

• Calms and heals irritated skin

• Promotes healthy detoxification of skin cells

• Rejuvenates the skin from the inside by promoting skin cell renewal

The application of the warmed chocolate is not only a stress reliever, but when used with other services like the hydrotherapy soak, body scrub, wrap, and massage, its medicinal benefits are increased significantly.

HYDROTHERAPY

Couples, whilst still basking in their chocolate masks, can indulge in a luxurious warm detox bath together as part of the spa’s detoxing hydrotherapy service. Hydrotherapy is a body treatment involving the movement, exercising, or immersion in water for pain relief, medicinal treatment and relaxation. At Adam & Eve, during the detoxifying “pamper temple” herbal hydrotherapy soak, clients are immersed in warm water at 32.2°C [90°F]) – from the neck down – for about 30 minutes to enhance relaxation and circulation. The heat from the soak contributes to a deep state of relaxation and a combination of minerals, herbs, essential oils or salts may be added.

The treatment is geared towards those experiencing anxiety or tense muscles, and heat is recommended. Pain or stress may lead to chemical changes in the body that can cause increased pulse rate and blood pressure. Regular hydrotherapy treatments help in reducing these symptoms by relieving and relaxing the swollen joints and slowing down the process of stress reaction. Hydrotherapy reduces joint pain by reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow and in general, heat helps to soothe and quiet the body, and to slow down the activity of internal organs.

BODY SCRUBS

The spa also boasts a selection of scrubs: the Rainforest Collection, Chocolate, Coconut, or Jamaica “Patwah”. A body scrub is a popular service at the spa. Known for the exfoliating and hydrating properties it can have, the smooth and soft skin clients are left with can be credited to the abrasive materials within like salt, sugar, and coffee grounds, among other things, usually mixed with some kind of massage oil and aromatics like essential oils. If the scrub uses salt, it might be called a salt scrub, salt glow or sea salt scrub.

BODY WRAPS

The body is covered in mud and wrapped in blankets for about 20 minutes while the wrap dries and is absorbed. This service usually precedes the hydrotherapy bath and couples can be wrapped in either the Jamaican Chocolate or JamDown body wrap or any other of a selection of wraps for another 30 minutes and return to the table for a full body massage.

Here are just a few benefits of a body wrap:

• Improves blood circulation and natural skin generation

• Fine mud grains cleanse the skin and remove any dirt particles, impurities and toxins

• Proven to provide effective relief for skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, acne and wrinkles

• Moisturises skin and helps its natural hydration

• Gently peels away dead skin cells to reveal a healthier, more youthful skin layer.

MASSAGES

Opting for a massage session, after detoxing in the hydrotherapy soak, is an unequalled experience in relaxation and healing. The benefits derived are exponentially increased when combined. This is essentially flushing out the toxins and increasing oxygen in the body.

When you receive a massage after a soak, you have already detoxed your body and brought your body and mind to a state of calm relaxation. This means the massage can accomplish much more, achieving greater release in muscles and fascia, and bringing a deeper state of relaxation.

Benefits of a massage include:

• Reduced muscular pain and spasms

• Reduced chronic pain of injuries

• Reduced effects of surgery

• Increased flexibility

• Improved posture

• Stress relief

• Improved immune system function

• Relief of tension headaches and migraine pain
