deCarteret College centenary countdown
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Last Monday (January 22), students of deCarteret College here made the annual trek from the school to attend the Founder’s Day Service at the St Mark’s Anglican Church (Mandeville Parish Church).
What may have been a routine exercise for many took on particular significance with the institution being on the threshold of celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The school body, alumni and others affiliated with the educational institution are in preparation mode for that milestone in January 2019.
deCarteret College has significantly progressed from its days of expatriate headmasters and only catering to the education of boys. Presently, the 1,226 male and female students make up a dynamic school population.
Proud moments over the years for deCarteret include producing a Rhodes Scholar; earning accolades as being among the top 10 best-performing schools in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and top five in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE); excelling in competitions such as debating, science exhibitions, computer technology, culinary arts and sports, namely badminton, table tennis and basketball.
Having made a mark locally, the school choir is now looking to the international stage as they prepare to embark on a trip to South Africa in July to participate in the Choir Olympics.
As deCarteret College counts down to its centenary, here are photo highlights from the recent Founder’s Day Thanksgiving Service and a rededication event at the school to signify continued growth.
