ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Police High Command has commended lawmen in the St Andrew South Division following the capture of two wanted men and the seizure of nine illegal guns and numerous rounds of ammunition since the start of the year.

“The men and women who work alongside me in the St Andrew South Division have exuded great professionalism and continue to be passionate about their job,” commanding officer for the division, Senior Superintendent Carl Ferguson said.

He further thanked the officers for their service and urged them to “continue striving to create safe and confident communities across the division”.

Meanwhile, the two wanted men who were arrested are Huntley Richards, otherwise called ‘Roy or Puppy Jaw’ and Christopher Evans, otherwise called ‘Voodo’.

Richards was arrested in St Ann on Friday, January 19 and is wanted for the murder of Wayne Anthony Gardner, committed in May 2010.

Evans was arrested by members of the St Andrew South Proactive Investigation Unit in Red Grounds, St Catherine on Saturday, January 20.

He is wanted for the murder of Sebert Johnson, committed in September 2016.

As it regards to the seizure of the firearms and ammunitions, on Tuesday, January 2, a Glock 9mm pistol along with 17 9mm rounds of ammunition were seized when 39-year-old Brandon Campbell of Cedar Grove Estate, St Catherine was fatally shot during a confrontation with police along Crescent Road, Kingston 11.

Two days later, on January 4, the Hunts Bay police apprehended one man and seized a 9mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition at a party on West Avenue, Kingston 13.

Shortly after, about 10:30 am, a police team in Duhaney Park arrested two men on Plantation Road, St Andrew in connection with the seizure of a Beretta 9mm pistol with two rounds of ammunition and a 9mm Ruger pistol with ten 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Then, on Saturday, January 20, quick action by the Olympic Gardens police led to the seizure of a Browning 9mm pistol, with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition and the arrest of one man, following a shooting death on Henderson Avenue, Kingston 11 about 7:45 pm.

One man was taken into custody about 10:20 pm, last Monday in connection with the seizure of a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol containing five rounds of ammunition on Fitzgerald Avenue, Kingston. On Wednesday last, the Hunts Bay police seized one Smith and Wesson pistol along with 11 rounds of ammunition on Olympic Way in Kingston.

Last Thursday, one Hewan 9mm semi-automatic pistol, with a magazine containing two 9mm rounds of ammunition, was taken from 33-year-old Richard Bowla, otherwise called ‘Rambo’, of Tavares Gardens in Kingston.

Bowla was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police on Payne Avenue, also in Kingston. Then last Friday, an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the seizure of a Clutch Back .45 pistol and six .45 cartridges on White Wing Avenue in the division.
