For Valentine’s Day, Choose Pink Bubbles

at The Wine Rack

“Wine gives courage and makes men more apt for passion.”

That was written in 17AD by Roman poet Ovid. With the day dedicated to love and passion fast approaching, what wines should we suggest for Valentine’s Day? I say that we should go with pink bubbles this year. These are my three choices:

Banrock Station Pink Moscato

If you are new to the world of wine or you prefer sweeter wines, then this is a light, fresh pink wine with ripe fruit flavour, good acidity and soft delicate bubbles — what the Italians call frizzante, meaning slightly effervescent — will be perfect for you. This wine has become the go-to wine for many here in Jamaica.

Lunetta Rosé

If you prefer your bubbly more on the dry, fruity and flirty side, like a Processo, then the Lunetta Rosé produced by Cavit, northern Italy’s largest wine producer, is a great option. Lunetta Rosé is a fresh and dry wine with soft white bubbles, cherry pink in colour, easy to drink, always a crowd-pleaser.

Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé

If you are in the mood for a more complex, finessed, luxurious wine to celebrate with that special someone, then Champagne should be top of mind. One of my favourites happens to be the Cuvée Rosé from Laurent-Perrier. Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé is made with 100% Pinot Noir from 10 different “crus “ (or villages), from the North and South areas of the Montagne de Reims, as well as the famous Côte de Bouzy.

The winemakers tell us that the grapes from carefully selected plots are meticulously sorted and de-stemmed before going into the vats, and the controlled maceration helps with the colour extraction and the development of the full aromatic richness of the Pinot Noir.

This is a serious Champagne, rich, powerful with a complex structured background; elegant and fresh on the palate. If the budget will allow, you will not be disappointed and you will thank me for making this recommendation.

“Wine prepares the heart for love unless you take too much.” – Ovid
