Red Stripe offers Ja women’s bobsleigh team a sled
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Red Stripe USA has offered the Jamaica women’s bobsleigh team a bobsled following a dramatic dispute where a former coach, who yesterday quit, said that she is legally responsible for the instrument.
According to reports from BBC Sport, German Sandra Kiriasis wanted payment for the sled but the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation declined and is disputing that she owns the sled.
However, with the sled situation being unresolved, Red Stripe USA in a tweet this morning said: “No bobsled, no problem. If you need a new ride @Jambobsled, put it on @RedStripe’s tab. DM [direct message] us and we’ll be in touch”.
The Jamaica team is making history in South Korea as the Caribbean island’s first female Winter Olympic competitors.
Their participation comes 30 years after men’s bobsleigh team made a historic appearance at the 1988 Calgary games, a feat that provided the inspiration for the 1993 movie “Cool Runnings.”
