KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica-based business mogul Josef Bogdanovich is executive producer of a new documentary that is attracting rave reviews across the tightly-knit documentary film industry in the United States.

Bogdanovich was the person at the centre of attention at the viewing of a special documentary on the life of famed unconventional artist George Maciunas at the renowned Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City on Wednesday.

“George,” is a documentary about Maciunas (1931-1978), a Lithuanian-born artist, who devised the manifesto for the movement known as Fluxus, was described this week by the New York Times as, “a way for the domineering Mr Maciunas (who invented Fluxus), an admirer of military history, to try to conquer and monopolise the avant-garde”.

Bogdanovich, whose Jamaica-based investments include Reggae Sumfest, Downsound Records, Downsound Entertainment, KLE, Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records, H&L Rapid True Value, H&L Agro, Parkland Industrial Co, Argyle Industries and the R Hotel, among others, was commended for his appreciation of modern art, foresight and his role as executive producer for the positively reviewed documentary.

Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Consul General to New York, Trudy Deans and Senior Advisor/ Strategist for Tourism, Delano Seiveright, were among the specially invited guests at a packed MoMA theatre filled with New York City’s artistic, academic, media and business elite to view the documentary.

The Jamaican government delegation attended after completing several meeting engagements with leading members of Jamaica’s Diaspora in the city.

The film is directed by renowned American artist and award winning filmmaker, Jeffrey Perkins.
