#GibsonRelays2018: Calabar a no show
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Rumours of an impending ‘boycott’ of the 42nd Gibson/McCook Relays seem to have been confirmed as six time defending boys national champions Calabar High have not shown for any of the events so far.
At the end of the qualifying rounds of the high school boys 4x400m and the 4x100m relays, no Calabar team reported to the start line.
Rumours started circulating last week that the green and black clad Calabar team would not be showing up but earlier this week head coach Michael Clarke told the Jamaica Observer that they intended to be at the event.
Late Friday it was heard that Calabar had withdrawn from the event citing a crowded calendar of events with a number of events coming up soon after participating in the recent Corporate Area Championships.
Calabar set a high school world record 3 minutes 05.04 seconds to win the 4x400m at the Corporate Area Championships where they also swept all the boys relays.
