Jahmiel pleased with Africa gig
JAHMIEL is back in the island after his gig in the west African country of The Gambia last week. He is pleased with his reception and said the promoters were the ones who reached out to his team.
“My music has been creating a huge buzz there and it was a great feeling actually being there. It was my first time in Africa and they showed me love and appreciation. It was a great show; about 15,000 to 20,000 people came out and they sung every song word for word. Even the songs that aren’t really known in Jamaica, those are the ones that stand out there and it goes to show that good music goes a far way,” he told Jamaica Observer yesterday.
While some entertainers believe international crowds are more receptive to Jamaican music, Jahmiel is of a different opinion.
“Everywhere you go you will have a tough crowd. I love the love in The Gambia; I felt like a superstar. Our music is their top genre there. I go to some places in Jamaica and they react to me the same way, whereas I’ve been to places in America and they know the songs but they won’t react that way. So everywhere is different and everywhere carries different vibes,” he said.
Jahmiel recently completed his Strongest Soldier US tour where he performed in over 10 cities including Los Angeles, Kansas City, Oakland, Charlotte, and Minneapolis. A European tour is currently in the works.
With his entry to the music scene coming in 2015, Jahmiel feels good about his artistic growth.
“It has been a great one. I am doing more shows, I am recording, I have a lot more experience and I’m in a much better place. I am happier now and it’s all a learning experience,” he said.
He is currently working on his debut album Strongest Soldier, based on his 2017 hit song. The project is being produced by DJ Frass and Chimney Records.
