So-Kah So-Kah turns up the soca vibes
IT was non-stop soca vibes at the recent staging of So-Kah, held at Liguanea Club in New Kingston.
Promoted by Xaymaca International, the event also featured an injection of dancehall vibes added to the proceedings. DJ Richie RAS, Patrick the Hype Man, DJ Smoke, and DJ King TAJ provided the musical delights which saw patrons sweating up a storm to the latest soca hits.
Trinidadian soca star Nailah Blackman, who has been on a roll this season, lit up the stage with hits including Sokah, Badishh (her collaboration with dancehall artiste Shenseea), and Workout.
According to Kandi King, Xaymaca International spokesperson, So-Kah is one of the lead-up events to the band’s 2018 series of soca parties.
“This was the first staging of So-Kah. We have a series of events currently taking place for carnival in Jamaica, from our pop-up Lymes, to our up-coming cruise, there’s literally an event every month,” King told Jamaica Observer.
She spoke about Blackman’s addition to the event.
“Nailah brought that new generation vibe and feel of soca music sweeping over Trinidad and Jamaica. She was well received by our patrons.”
King was pleased with the turnout of patrons as well.
“The turnout was great! We saw a lot of our returning masqueraders, along with new faces, all ready to join the Xaymaca family. We are so grateful to our sponsors for bringing this event to life! Thanks to Barcode, Tru-Juice, Nescafe, Lasco iCool, CPJ, Heineken, Smirnoff and of course, the excellent production all done by Starlight Productions,” she said.
“DJ’s included DJ Richie RAS, King Taj and DJ Smoke, along with the Hype Man Patrick from Trinidad kept us dancing the entire night!”
Jason Hendricks, brand manager for spirits at Red Stripe, spoke about Smirnoff’s involvement in So-Kah.
“It’s a nice fit. Smirnoff and Xaymaca events are about honest, effortless fun. This year, we are creating electric memories for all patrons at our sponsored events,” said Hendricks. “Xaymaca revellers know how to make a good event great, so the relationship only comes naturally.”
