Campion look to final tournament in JGA inaugural inter-school golf
The unassailable leader, Campion College will tee off at 3:30 pm today at tConstant Spring Golf Club in Kingston in the inaugural Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) Inter-Schools Golf Competition.
Campion have 12 points ahead of second-place Jamaica College with 10 points. Hillel Academy are in third spot on seven points. They are followed by AISK on four points and St Andrew High School for Girls with three points.
The format of play for the final tournament in the competition will be singles matches, stroke play of the nine holes that they play in this competition. The top three scores combined, the school with the lowest score will win. With the final match points will be added to those already accumulated by the teams, with the team with the highest number of points declared the winner.
Campion have 12 points and if they play as they have been playing since the start of the competition, they should win at the end of the day and be declared the overall winners of the inaugural competition.
The third of four tournaments in the inaugural JGA Inter-School Golf Competition was held recently at the Constant Spring Golf Club, with Campion College winning the day’s round and extending their lead over second-place Jamaica College.
The teams played a format called “two-man scramble”, with best two-man combined score being the winner. For this round, two sets of scores were recorded. The competition was played using nine holes instead of the regular 18 holes. Constant Spring is a 70-par score course.
The scores at the end of the day were Campion with 70, Jamaica College with 71 and Hillel with 78. The points for the respective positions were four, three and two, respectively. The overall points per teams at the end of the third round were Campion — 12, Jamaica College — 10 and Hillel — seven.
