Route taxi applicants urged to use only approved associations
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Transport Authority is urging prospective applicants and existing licensees to conduct business with only approved route taxi associations.
The authority, in a release today, said it has received reports that some entities/persons have been collecting prospective applicants’ files, application fees and undertaking to submit these applications to the authority, under the guise that they operate approved route taxi associations.
“Notwithstanding, these persons/entities are not approved by the Transport Authorit,” said the authority, reiterating that customers who opt to utilise the services of unapproved entities or persons, do so at their own risk, as it will accept no liability for the outcome of these transactions.
With this, the authority said the public should also note that since the delisting of the Portmore Route Taxi Association (PRTA), no other route taxi associations have been granted approval to operate in Portmore, St Catherine.
The Maxfield Avenue Head Office is currently facilitating the processing of transactions for licensees of the delisted PRTA and applicants who seek membership in one of the approved route taxi associations in the parish of St Catherine.
The authority said a complete list of approved route taxi associations is available on the company’s website at www.ta.org.jm.
