THE dancer has always been a part of Jamaican music. Since the days of boogie woogie in the 1950s, and ska a decade later, the ‘legs man’ has made his mark.

In Watchi Flick, deejay Papie Keelo (aka the Spanish Boss) highlights moves that has made dancehall popular in Eastern Europe and Japan. The hard-core song is complemented by a video saluting the genre’s choreographers.

“This video shows how people all over the world embrace this song, how every community and corner recognise and can dance to this song,” he said.

Watchi Flick is one of the songs the St Thomas-born artiste has released in the past 18 months. For a time he was affiliated with Freddie McGregor’s Big Ship label for which he did Comment Her and Badman Gyal. He left that camp in 2015 and has since released songs such as Tickaz and Dip Suh which featured DJ Ruxie.

Another song, You Know Di Rules, was released in late 2017.

The 27-year-old Papie Keelo believes he has some momentum and hopes to maintain that flow going into summer when artistes release a rush of songs.

“Right now the streets can’t get enough of the songs, trust mi. All at the popular weekly parties, a pure forward the songs get; the people a run wid it,” he said.
