Expect minor delays on Mandela Highway this weekend — NWA

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Motorists using the Mandela Highway this weekend may experience slight delays on the westbound carriage, which takes vehicular traffic from the direction of Kingston towards Spanish Town.

Manager, communication and customer services at the (NWA), Stephen Shaw, said that traffic could be impacted when using the section of the corridor in the vicinity of the Jamaica Public Service’s (JPSCo’s) Duhaney Park Sub-station.

He explained that the work to be undertaken this weekend is a continuation of last weekends’ effort to facilitate the laying of conduits to accommodate JPSCo’s high voltage cables.

The cables are being put underground in order to facilitate the retirement of wooden poles that are within the right of way of the expanded Mandela Highway.

Shaw said that the exercise will commence at 9:00 pm on Saturday and is expected to be completed by midday on Sunday.

The motoring public is being urged to obey the instructions of flag-persons and posted warning signs and to use alternative routes if they so desire, in order to reduce the likelihood of delays getting into and out of the city of Kingston.
