Bus driver accused of trying to mow down police sergeant
An unlicensed bus driver, who reportedly disobeyed a police sergeant’s signal to stop and almost hit the sergeant off his bike, is scheduled to return to court in April.
The accused, Levy Richards, is facing charges of dangerous driving, driving without a licence, having no insurance coverage, and disobeying a police order.
According to the police in a report on March 1, around 8:35 am the sergeant was patrolling the Florizel Glasspole Highway in the vicinity of the Harbour View roundabout when he was informed about an accident on South Camp Road.
The sergeant, who was riding a motorcycle, was reportedly on his way and, upon reaching the intersection of Paradise Street and Michael Manley Boulevard, saw a green Coaster bus and signalled the driver to stop.
The driver reportedly refused to stop, swung the bus into the path of the sergeant and kept coming at the officer, who reportedly had to swing his bike into a median to avoid being hit.
The driver was subsequently arrested and charged. On Friday when he appeared in court his bail was extended for him to return in April.
