Friends shocked at Jamaican’s death in Miami bridge accident
FRIENDS of Navaro Brown, the Jamaican who died in a freak accident in Miami, Florida, last week Thursday, expressed their condolences and shock at his untimely demise on social media yesterday.
The 37-year-old was among six people who died when a pedestrian bridge collapsed in the city.
According to the Miami Herald newspaper, Brown — who hails from Mocho in Clarendon — was an employee of Structural Technologies VSL, a company that provides products to strengthen bridges.
According to spokesman Michael Biesiada, two other employees were hospitalised, however, they are listed as in stable condition.
He added that “our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Brown’s family and with the other affected employees. We really appreciate the work of the first responders, who immediately offered their help.”
One family member said: “Watching the news, just like any other news, but little did I know that my family member, my loving cousin was one of those lying on the ground battling for his life. God knows the hurt I am feeling. Watching news will never be the same again.”
“Death has once again stolen a young soul. It’s so, so sad to see his mom and wife heading to Miami to identify/receive his body. RIP Navaro,” said another friend.
“Father God I ask you for your coverage over us, we ask that you be there for us. I ask that your loving and tender mercy never leaves us. In our grief we might question and ask why, because that’s me right now, asking why?! We are not perfect lord but help us to realise even though it’s so hard father that you alone are God! I put before you a mother that has lost her child, a sister who has lost her brother, and a brother that has lost a brother. Words cannot take away their pain so I ask of you lord to intervene, be their strong rock father!! SIP Varo.”
Media reports said that three other victims of the collapsed bridge have also been identified by United States authorities.
The victims are Alexa Duran, 18, Rolando Froga, 60, and Osvaldo Gonzalez, 57.
The pedestrian bridge was intended to give students of Florida International University (FIU) a safe way to cross Tamiami Trail and was part of a project to link FIU’s Modesto A Maidique Campus to the city of Sweetwater, where several thousand students live. The walkway had not yet opened to student traffic.
