‘Buss’ the budget, Man A Yaad!
Dear Editor,
Only the unwise don’t learn from their mistakes. So, in the past Audley Shaw, as finance minister, burst the budget to please the public sector workers and still ended up paying a political price for that. The Government couldn’t even sit, much less pass an International Monetary Fund (IMF) test.
The People’s National Party (PNP), who were on the side of the public sector workers, ended up campaigning in 2011 about that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) can’t sit IMF tests. In the 2016 election the PNP campaigned on the JLP track record with the IMF. It also told the nation that if the JLP gets the country to run they will “mash up” the IMF programme.
Sometimes in life the use of sarcasm to drive home a point is a necessity.
“Man A Yaad”, go ahead and ‘buss’ the budget, but no one will feel sorry for you when you start failing IMF tests. You were warned.
The same Opposition will tell the nation, “I told you so.” Mash up the IMF programme and you will see these same public sector workers will come together in the ‘interest on the country’ under a PNP Administration.
‘Buss’ the budget, Man A Yaad, and believe Labourites will feel sorry for you when you get replaced by Dr Nigel Clarke.
History shows that Edward Seaga put the interest of Jamaica first over the public sector and paid a political price for it. History also shows that Bruce Golding put the public sector over the country, and he too paid a political price for it. History, however, is kinder to Edward Seaga because he left a solid economy for the PNP.
Man A Yaad, you won’t be so lucky. Let those who have ears to hear and eyes see…
