Jamaicans to head Salvation Army’s C’bean territory
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Salvation Army’s Caribbean Territory will be led by Jamaicans for the first time in its 131-year history.
Lieutenant Colonels Devon and Verona Haughton, currently serving as chief secretary and territorial secretary for women’s ministries respectively, have been appointed to take leadership of the territory with both receiving a promotion to the rank of commissioner.
Lt Colonel Devon Haughton is appointed territorial commander (chief director of the work) and Lt Colonel Verona Haughton as territorial president of women’s ministries (chief director of women’s movements), in the 16 countries that comprise the Caribbean territory.
A public installation service for the Haughtons will be held at the Bramwell Booth Memorial Hall in Kingston, Jamaica on Sunday, April 22.
Lt Colonels Devon and Verona Haughton have served as officers (ministers) in The Salvation Army for the last thirty-seven and forty-two years respectively.
