PICA to reach more people with bus
THE Ministry of National Security has provided the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) with a Mitsubishi Rosa bus valued at $9.8 million.
The vehicle, which was presented by Portfolio Minister Robert Montague to PICA’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wynter at the agency’s head office in Kingston on Tuesday, will better enable the entity to take its services on the road, particularly in rural areas.
“The drive is to get PICA to [go to] the people… rather than those people coming to PICA. [So], this unit will go into the hills and valleys and into the communities,” the minister said.
For his part, Wynter said one of PICA’s strategic objectives for the 2018/19 fiscal year is to improve service delivery via enhanced customer engagement and efficient business processes.
To this end, he said the bus represents one of the methods that PICA plans to utilise islandwide throughout the year.
“Even though we have outstations, we do recognise that there are locations and communities that are far (from the services offered in Kingston and other central locations). So, rather than waiting for [persons] to come to us, we will be going out to them to bring them on board,” Wynter assured.
