#Champs2018: Davis of Edwin Allen sets sprint double record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kevona Davis of Edwin Allen has finally delivered the sprint double record.
The second year Class two athlete stormed to victory in a new meet record 11.35 seconds in the semi-finals of the Girls’ 100 metres at the 108th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ championship at the National Stadium a short while ago.
Davis, who on Thursday’s third day stormed to a new National Youth and meet record of 22.92 seconds in the semi-finals of the girls 200m, returned to account for the sprint double record today.
In the 100m, she erased Simone Shaw’s old mark of 11.40 seconds set in 2016 in a negative 0.3 metres per second wind speed, with a lot left in the tank. The 100 m final will be run later this afternoon.
Davis has been teasing track and field enthusiast with blistering times of 23.13 and 23.15 earlier in the season and on Thursday she inevitably took down the longstanding 200m ‘Champs’ record of 23.13 set by Anneisha McLaughlin in 2002.
Her 22.92 which was clocked in a positive 0.6 metres per second wind speed, could possibly be lowered in the final come Saturday evening as she literally eased up some five metres from the line.
