PNP candidate nominated for Yallahs by-election
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for the Yallahs division in St Thomas Western, Constantine Bogle, completed his nomination at the Yallahs Baptist Church Hall this afternoon.
Bogle’s nomination fee was paid with three $5,000 bills for the by-election on April 27.
He will be going up against the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) John Lee who is the vice chairman of the division after the seat was made vacant by a ruling in the Supreme Court that the previous councillor for the division, the JLP’s Dean Jones had disqualified himself.
According to the high court, Jones’ disqualification was on the grounds that at the time of the November 2016 Local Government elections, he was employed to the government.
A total of 31 polling stations situated across seven voting locations will be used in the division, while 83 Election Day workers will be required to conduct the elections with a budget of 9.5 million that has been allocated to the Electoral Commission to carry it out.
The November 30, 2017 voters’ list will be used for the elections.
