Whitmore back as Reggae Boyz head coach
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Senior National Football team Head Coach Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore has withdrawn his resignation and has agreed to continue in the post.
According to a joint statement from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange and Whitmore, a new contract will be offered to the head coach and all issues are now considered settled.
The decision was made at meeting held at the ministry’s office today.
Whitmore’s resignation had followed discussions with the JFF over a reportedly low salary package.
When German Winfried Schaefer left Jamaica it was said that he was earning US$45,000 a month, which is equivalent to $5.6 million. Whitmore was said to have been offered approximately US$3,000 a month, though his salary on his previous stint was much more than that.
It was not disclosed what salary package would be offered to the head coach with the new contract.
