KINGSTON, Jamaica — The four candidates contesting the April 27 by-election in the Yallahs Division of St Thomas Western and the May Pen North Division in Clarendon respectively have signed the Code of Political Conduct, signalling their commitment to good governance.

In the Yallahs Division, the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) John Lee and the People’s National Party’s (PNP) Constantine Bogle signed off at a ceremony held at the Yallahs Baptist Church Hall yesterday.

It was presided over by Marcia Bennett, Custos Rotulorum for St Thomas.

Meanwhile, the JLP’s Tanya-Lee Williams and the PNP’s Earl Blake in Clarendon signed off this morning at the office of William Shagoury, Custos Rotulorum for Clarendon.

With the conclusion of the ceremonies, the quartet has now pledged to uphold the Standards of the Political Code of Conduct by signing Certificates of Commitment.

At the signing in Clarendon, Blake said “It was a surprise to me to hear that she (Williams) was running. [It] may be a surprise to her too to hear that I was running.”

Blake assured that there will be no violence, while, Williams gave her assurance explaining that “violence is a no-no. As a woman of God I detest that and I will not have it in my campaign on my campaign team or when I go to my communities I do not speak against the representative for the People’s National Party.”

Both ceremonies were attended by the Political Ombudsman, representatives of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and party supporters.
