One step further for Anthony Radcliffe
Anthony Radcliffe has been toiling for more than four years now to become a jockey at Caymanas Park, and little by little he is seeing a glimmer of hope that his dream of becoming a rider is materialising. Radcliffe made an important further step on his desired career path on Saturday when he scored back-to-back wins in the Exercise Riders’ Race at Caymanas Park.
Radcliffe’s second win came aboard the 7-2 shot Man In Blue, and he paid heartfelt gratitude to trainer Paul Hylton for the opportunity to continue showing that his riding skill is steadily improving with a good ride aboard the son of Miracle Man.
“My aim is to become a jockey, and thanks to the connections for giving me this ride. This victory really means a lot to me and I hope that they see that I am not riding badly as I won the last Exercise Riders’ Race, and this took some effort to get the job done.
“I know that this horse has problems. I have been with this horse since he was a bronco (young horse) because he was at Richard Azan Stables and I was the one that schooled that horse while he was there, so I know a lot about him. I have been around this horse for a long time.
“It is more than six years now since I have been on the trail of becoming a jockey, and with these two wins I begin to feel progress and my self-confidence is building steadily and I just have to keep working.
“At this stage I think that people will be watching my progress more, and I have to pay closer attention to what I have to do and should become more intense as I need to fulfil my dream of becoming a jockey. And when that stage is reached, I will want to become the best jockey I can become,” Radcliffe told the Supreme Racing Guide.
Man In Blue won the four-furlong (800m) event by half length over Awesome Cat (M Porter) and El Saldado (D Thompson) in 48.4.
