Haitian, 2 Jamaicans held on ganja vessel off Westmoreland coast
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard yesterday intercepted a vessel off the coast of Westmoreland and seized approximately 765 pounds of compressed ganja.
The JDF, in a release today, said three men, one Haitian and two Jamaicans, strongly suspected to be part of the ongoing guns-for-drugs trade between the islands, were held in connection with the seizure.
According to reports, the JDF Coast Guard patrol team was on routine patrol in the area when they spotted the blue motor-vessel.
The JDF said its team approached the vessel and reportedly saw the three men throwing a number of packages over board.
The team reportedly recovered five packages and found that they contained the contraband. The JDF said it also seized 11 packages that were still on board and a number of containers with over 150 gallons of fuel.
The men and the contraband have been handed over to the narcotics police, the defence force said.
