Glitter & Glam

Carnival season might be officially over but, according to make-up pro Sasha Bowie, there’s no reason not to amp up your weekend look.

Get The Look… with

A pair of fishnet stockings

Creamy eyeshadow such as Make Up Forever Flash Colour

Large clear rhinestones (gems)

Spirit gum

Glitter sealant

Pink/fuchsia glitter

1 After applying your primer, foundation and powder, cut a pair of fishnet stockings so that you have one layer of the stocking with the open fishnet holes.

2 Place that cut piece of stocking on one side of the face. Next, using a large make-up brush, paint on a creamy eyeshadow (gold flash colour from Make Up For Ever used here) completely over the fishnet stocking. Carefully lift the stocking off skin. This should leave behind a scale-like pattern on the side of the face. Let dry.

3 Adhere large clear rhinestones with spirit gum sporadically over the same patterned area.

4 Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply purple eyeshadow to the crease of the eyes. Apply using a windshield wiper motion, blend well. Follow with a deep blue colour and apply to the eyelids blending upwards into the previously applied purple eyeshadow. Blending is the key to achieving beautiful eyeshadow looks. Apply and blend both the purple and blue eyeshadows under the lower lash line as well.

5 Glitter lips – apply a liquid to matte pink lipstick to lips (eg Maybelline matte ink stay lipstick in ‘romantic’). Apply glitter sealant over lips. Using a small eyeshadow brush dab on pink/fuchsia glitter all over lips. Let dry.

6 Use a setting spray to lock this entire look in place! (eg Skindinavia setting spray)

Mermaid

Inspired by a mermaid concept, this glitter and gems look is fun, pretty and quite easy to achieve. The result — a fun weekend theme party look.

1 Apply primer (eg Smashbox Photofinish primer,) any medium to full coverage foundation and your preferred pressed or translucent loose powder.

2 Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush apply bright pigmented colours such as green, then blended into a pink colour in the crease of the eyes. Blend outwards and upwards towards the eyebrows. Follow by using a more precise eyeshadow brush and apply a purple colour to the eyelids and lower eyelids below the lower lash line. (A great palette to use for this is the Morphe 35S palette.)

3 Adhere a few holographic rhinestones, using the cosmetic adhesive spirit gum, underneath each eye. Place two translucent rhinestones at the inner corner of each eye as well (this opens up and brightens the eyes.) A single emerald green rhinestone was placed in the middle of model Mya’s forehead. This is optional.

4 Using any safe cosmetic body glue, brush the glue in a ‘C’ shape on each side of the face from the forehead to the cheek area. Then add any combination of loose glitters to the glue. Allow some time to dry (pink and silver glitter were used here). Follow by adhering any colour rhinestones using the spirit gum adhesive again, randomly over the areas covered with the glitter (green rhinestones were used here).

5 A pre-made jewelled adhesive design was added over the eyebrows for a more dramatic effect. This is completely optional.

6 Finally, apply an orange lip stain to finish off this look.

7 Spray the face evenly with setting spray to prolong wear (e.g Make Up Forever Mist & fix Spray).
