ST ANN, Jamaica — The Police Federation paid tribute to fallen members during the first day of its two-day conference currently being held at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios.

Yesterday, during his address to the 75th annual conference, outgoing chairman Sergeant Cecil McCalla urged members to visit the family members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) members who have died in the line of duty.

Lamenting the death of police officers, McCalla said: “How unfortunate it is to sit — in just over a year — and look at the faces of 31 of our [fallen] colleagues”.

“I urge you all members… find a little time and go and visit their families. Look at the children; ensure that they are going to school,” McCalla said.

In the meantime, the police are appealing for more to be done to honour those who were killed in the line of duty.

During a question and answer session with Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, one officer pointed out that enough was not being done from the Government perspective to honour the fallen.

The officer said a former minister promised a monument; however, that has not happened.

Dr Chang said plans for the monument were still active as he has seen the design since taking up office as Minister of National Security.
