Police Federation selects first female chairman
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Corporal Arlene McBean has been selected as the new chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation (JPF).
Corporal McBean, who was selected by the executive body of the federation yesterday at its annual conference at the Moon Palace Jamaica Grande Resort in St Ann, is the first female member of the force to assume the position of chairman of the JPF in its 75 -year history.
The current training and development director on the JPF’s executive board, Cpl McBean’s mantra is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, and is said to approach her portfolio responsibilities “with unmatched enthusiasm and cohesion, with the precision of a drill sergeant”, according to a posting on the JPF’s website.
Inspector Sheldon Gordon has been returned as general secretary of the federation. A former director of training, Gordon has been involved in ongoing research into disciplinary matters within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The three-day annual conference of the JCF ends today.
