Art for education through the Liguanea Lodge
The Liguanea Lodge Art Auction, arguably the leading marketplace for fine art in Jamaica for the past 25 years, will again seek to raise funds towards its educational outreach programmes.
This year will mark the 26th annual staging at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel, New Kingston, on Thursday, May 24, and will be celebrated with 80 pieces of work being offered on auction to discerning buyers and collectors alike. A number of award-winning artists have applied their skills in creating highly specialised pieces to mark the occasion, which is being dubbed ‘The beginning of the second silver jubilee’.
The Auction will honour the late Gene Pearson with the inclusion of a few pieces of his work, which is known to be more craft than fine art.
A number of newcomers, as well as up and coming artists will be featured in this year’s collection, as the organisers believe in growing the fine arts community which has been so supportive of their efforts over the past 25 years. As well, there will be works from current and deceased masters, and the auction committee is quite excited about some particular pieces from this section of the compilation.
Plans are now firmly in place for the event, set to begin at 7:00 pm.
The 2018 enactment will have PROVEN Wealth as a sponsor for the first time, along with support from KOOL 97FM. The auctioning of art will be interspersed by complementing offerings such as holidays, dinner night out, and the highly sought after wine basket of decidedly specialty wines from local purveyor Select Brands.
Proceeds from the auction will go towards funding secondary scholarship programmes and the planned restart of a bursary or scholarship at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
