Basil Waite to represent PNP in St Elizabeth NE
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Deputy General Secretary of the People’s National Party, Basil Waite is set to be the party’s standard bearer in the St Elizabeth North Eastern constituency after he defeated Councillor for the Balaclava Division, Everton Fisher today.
Waite claimed 576 of 849 votes, compared to Fisher’s 271.
There were two spoiled ballots.
Comrades, most in their distinctive orange shirts, massed in two camps close to the St Elizabeth Technical High School gate earlier today.
Waite claimed victory from a 77% turnout of the 1100 registered delegates.
Voting, which begun at 10:00am, closed at 4:00 pm.
Today’s election becae necessary after sitting PNP Member of Parliament for the constituency, Evon Redman, announced that he will not be seeking re-election.
