Lawyers yet to meet with Mavado

Tamika Harrison and Peter Champagnie, who was retained yesterday, is representing the artiste. The latter told the Jamaica Observer they will have to meet with the Mavado after his show in Florida this weekend.

The deejay is scheduled to perform at The All-White Affair: Malta’s & Mitch’s birthday party at the Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds tomorrow.

“Arrangements are being made for him to come and meet with the police,” Champagnie said. “Mr Brooks remains a law-abiding citizen and is willing to corporate with the police.”

Cops gave the entertainer a noon deadline on Wednesday to report for a questioning session at the Constant Spring Police Station. They believe he can assist with information about one of five men held at his Norbrook residence.

The deejay, who resides in the US, was a feature in the news cast this week.

According to police, Mavado and an individual had an argument last Saturday morning in Cassava Piece community. The person returned with a group of men, one of whom fired gunshots at the entertainer who escaped injury.

The deejay reported the matter to the Constant Spring Police Station and a man was detained in relation to the incident.

Cassava Piece is currently under curfew following a spate of murders during the past week. On Saturday three murders were committed there, while on Tuesday, 23-year-old Lorenza Thomas was shot, chopped and set ablaze by unknown assailants.

The Under 1200 section also had two Chess Whiz Kids making the podium with Antonic Chung gaining victory and Kyle Pratt finishing in fourth place.

Day two was not without a few hiccups but the players held it together to finish strongly, dominating the Under 700 and Under 400 sections.

The Under 700 had Michael Graham and Dylan Blagrove-Lewis emerging first and third, respectively, while the Under 400 saw a similar result from Najae Powell and Rohit Mahtani, where Najae swept his section with a perfect five from five points to take first place, while Mahtani settled with four from points for second place.

Chess Whiz Kids Academy also took home the first place trophies for both the Under 400 and 700 team sections.

But the day wasn’t over yet as the kids wound down day two in the bughouse competition when the team of Jaden Shaw and Anthony Lyn placed first overall. They also took home the second, third, fifth and sixth place trophies in the 10-team Bughouse competition.

On the final day the Under 400 and Under 700 did the double taking first and second in the Under 400 section with Rohit Mahtani first and Najae Powell second.

The Under 1600 rating section was way more intense but the Jamaicans held their ground and forged through with Darren McKennis taking home second place, while Jaden Shaw and Kyle Pratt took the third and fifth place, respectively. However their combined results were enough to take home the first place team award.
