Education minister pays tribute to late UWI criminologist
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Information Minister Senator Ruel Reid today paid tribute to Professor Bernard Headley of the University of the West Indies (UWI) who died last Friday.
Reid in a statement from his ministry noted that the late Professor Emeritus of Criminology at the UWI Mona campus was a dedicated academic who was particularly concerned that the society had a proper understanding of the many contributing factors to criminal behaviour and social dysfunction.
Reid also noted Headley’s passionate advocacy for the reform of the justice system and for the re-integration into the Jamaican society of people who had been deported to Jamaica.
In extending condolences to the family and colleagues of Headley, Reid said his contribution to academia and public affairs in the media based on his studies and personal insights would be greatly missed.
