Bloomfield undecided for Senior Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s top quarter miler Akeem Bloomfield is on his home but the Auburn University standout is not sure if he will be competing at the National Senior championship.
“I’ll be coming to Jamaica. I’ll decide when I’m there,” Bloomfield told OBSERVER ONLINE this afternoon.
Bloomfield is coming off an astonishing 43.94 seconds clocking that earned him second spot in the 400m at the NCAA Championship last week.
It was just outside the Jamaican national record of 43.93 held by Rusheen McDonald since 2015 at the Beijing World Championship.
Bloomfield who turns 21 in December will not be eligible for the World Juniors so more than likely, if he decides to compete, it will be in the Senior Championship set for June 21-24.
Local fans are eager to once more see Bloomfield who is the high school 400 metre record-holder with 44.93.
Furthermore, if he decides to run athletics enthusiasts could be treated to a dream 400m clash involving Bloomfield, Calabar star Christopher Taylor, Demish Gaye of Sprintec, Javon Francis of Akan along with Fitzroy Dunkley.
Meanwhile OBSERVER ONLINE has learnt that Nathon Allen will be also in the island, but like Bloomfield it is not sure if he will compete. Howard Walker
