Kennedy replaces Facey in Manchester Municipal Corporation
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Educator and first-time councillor Rohan Kennedy was today elected as the new deputy mayor and vice chairman of the Manchester Municipal Corporation.
Kennedy, who won the Mile Gully Division for the People’s National Party (PNP) in the 2016 Local Government Election, was the sole nominee for the post during the regular monthly meeting.
The position of deputy mayor became vacant following the recent resignation of Ervin Facey (PNP-Spur Tree Division), who was second in command at the Corporation to Mayor and Chairman Donovan Mitchell.
Facey, who is still the Councillor for the Spur Tree Division resigned as deputy mayor following investigations into payment for work in the parish, for which a cheque was disbursed before the voucher was approved by the requisite signatories.
Two other officers of the Corporation have reportedly tendered their resignation as a result of the issue.
