Paulwell wants NESOL to appear before PAAC
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) Spokesman on Mining & Energy and Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives, Phillip Paulwell says he has written to the chairman of the Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC) of Parliament, Dr Wykeham McNeill requesting that the management of National Energy Solutions Limited (NESOL) and public officials in the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology, be immediately summoned before the committee to answer questions.
According to Paulwell, the summoning of the officials of NESOL was necessary against the background of information in the public domain concerning actions taken by the police to seize files at the entity in relation to an ongoing investigation.
He said that as the Committee of Parliament charged with responsibility for giving oversight to the expenditure of public funds, the examination of systems and controls, as well as ensuring the existence of the highest standards of corporate governance in public entities, it is entirely appropriate that the PAAC seeks to fulfill this responsibility in respect of NESOL in this instance.
“It is only fitting for the PAAC to be proactive in ensuring that the highest level of probity exists in all aspects of the conduct of the affairs of NESOL and that the Government and people of Jamaica are receiving full value for money from the activities of the public entity, its staff and management,” Paulwell said.
He pointed out that the exercise of the prerogative of the PAAC in this regard is separate from, and does not impinge on, the authority of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in the conduct of its investigations.
