JOA donates $1m to national chess programme
The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) donated $1,000,000 to the national chess programme recently.
The contribution will help junior chess players to participate in the 2018 Pan-American Youth Chess Festival.
This investment is one of 18 contributions to associations made since January to the tune of $50,000,000, geared towards providing all members an opportunity to develop programmes and athletes.
In a statement the CEO, Ryan Foster, asserted that “The thrust continues in creating opportunities for our constituent members. This move is consistent with The Pathway to Success articulated by the board of directors of the Jamaica Olympic Association. The JOA recognises that there is tremendous talent resident across all our associations, and it is through partnerships such as these that opportunities are created for unearthing excellence.” The team will travel to Chile for the competition slated for July 21-29.
