Windies chase 296 to win second Test
GROS ISLET, St Lucia (CMC) — West Indies will chase a target of 296 to win the second Test after speedster Shannon Gabriel needed just 20 minutes to wrap up Sri Lanka’s second innings and end with career-best match figures of 13 for 121 on Monday’s final day.
Resuming on 334 for eight at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, Sri Lanka’s innings lasted just 16 deliveries before buckling for 342 all out, with Gabriel finishing with eight for 62 — the sixth best figures for a West Indies bowler in Tests.
Gabriel struck in the mornings first over when he pinned Suranga Lakmal on the crease, lbw for seven before removing Akila Dananjaya for 23 in his next over, bowled after ducking in a short ball which never got up.
The Trinidadian’s match figures are the third best by a West Indies bowler in Tests.
