While I laud the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for its new approach and zeal in dealing with everything policing related, since the advent of the esteemed major general to the top post I’m forced to condemn the actions of some members.

Some policemen in this country seem as though they don’t learn, and that’s really disheartening. It is the year 2018 and if a policeman, or some policemen, think they can collect money to throw away a case, scrap cars parked in police stations, or steal bikes or cars taken for safekeeping and have the guts to drive the stolen bike/car back to work, it tells me that something is fundamentally flawed with the thinking of some men who wear the uniform.

I think repetition is good until whatever is being taught is learnt, but if after several attempts at correcting and the concept is not being grasped, cut ties and move along to the next topic.

So, again, I’m asking the powers that be to purge the JCF. Why should the stellar work done in such a short time by so many officers be tarnished and the entire force brought into disrepute by a few criminal elements cloaked in police garb?

When I say purge I mean from top to the last recruit, if necessary. Rescue the JCF from the constant negative press and save some persons from themselves. At least save them from showing their true colours while wearing the police uniform.

Salutations to the JCF on how they are working assiduously in curtailing the crime and murder rate. In the same breath, though, it must be said that there is need to purge the force, once and for all. Do not think of the possible fallout in numbers. When the JCF is viewed as more credible, and not harbouring criminals, many good people with the qualities needed will be attracted to it and offer to serve.
